Signs of Hard Water

We are experts in hard water testing and can provide a comprehensive analysis of your water source to determine if you have this type of impurity. We use the latest testing methods to accurately identify levels of hardness, alkalinity,  and other parameters that help us develop an effective solution for you.

Once we have determined the quality of your water, our team will use our specialized equipment to analyze the presence of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate ions which cause hardness. We also examine the pH level so that appropriate treatments can be used for neutralization purposes. From basic filtration to chemical softening systems, our experienced technicians can install any system required to address your hard water issues.

Water Treatment FAQs

Answering All Your Water Softener Questions

  • What is Hard Water?

Hard water is when there are high levels of calcium and magnesium dissolved in your water. It can reduce the effectiveness of soap, cause dry skin, and cause buildup and damage to appliances.

  • What is Soft Water?

Soft water has never been exposed to calcium or magnesium, or these elements have been removed through a water softening process where the magnesium and calcium are replaced with sodium chloride.

  • What Types of Water Filtration Are There?

    UV Filtration

Ultraviolet (UV) light filtration is a safe and effective method for disinfecting your drinking water that works by exposing living organisms like bacteria or viruses to a germicidal UV wavelength which kills the bacteria or viruses.

    Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis works using a small retaining tank installed in the basement, where the pure water will be held for use. It is made up of a sediment filter and also features a single manifold with four filter technologies and carbon filters for a better taste and smell.

    Standard Filters

For standard filters, they can be cartridge devices or loose media tank-style designs. Sediment filters are also a type of standard filter and are used to remove any grit or particulates from the water. The water passes through these standard filters to remove unpleasant odors, colors, tastes, and iron.

    Water Softeners

Water softeners are used to resolve the issue of hard water, where you have a high level of minerals like magnesium and calcium in your water. Water softeners filter water through a mineral tank that contains a resonated media to filter out iron, magnesium, and calcium.

Resonated media is made up of resin or plastic beads that have a negative electrical charge so they can attract the positive charge of the hard particles in the water. These are available in ion exchange where the sodium ions are substituted for the hard minerals or a dual-tank water softener that uses two resin tanks.

  • Why Should I Have My Well Water Tested?

Well water is common in rural areas where landowners obtain their water from wells on their land. In other cases, some towns and water supply companies may get their water supply from deep wells. Well water typically has a higher mineral content, with higher levels of calcium and magnesium when compared to groundwater. Well water tends to be hard, requiring a water softener for a more desirable experience.

Tap water is obtained from a town water supply. This type of water is thoroughly treated and safe to drink but can also benefit from various water treatments.

  • How Often Should I Have My Water Tested?

We recommend that you have your water tested on a yearly basis to ensure it is safe. At Aqua Solutions, we will thoroughly test your water for:

    • pH level
    • Total dissolved solids
    • Total coliform bacteria
    • Nitrates
  • How Does Lead Get into The Water?

Lead enters the water through corrosion, which occurs when metal is worn away or dissolved due to a chemical reaction between your plumbing and the water. Lead is toxic - which is why you want to make sure your water is cleansed from lead build up.

  • How much Lead in the Water is Safe?

The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) sets the maximum allowable lead content in water or what content is considered lead-free, at a weighted average of .25. This percentage includes all wetted surfaces of pipe fittings, pipes, fixtures, and plumbing fittings. This also includes 0.2 percent for the solder and flux. The maximum contaminant level is set at zero. This is the level at which no adverse health effects will occur.

    What Dangers Does Lead Pose?

Lead is toxic to humans and can bioaccumulate in the body over time. This puts younger children, infants, and fetuses at a higher risk of health problems caused by lead exposure such as:

    • Anemia
    • Lower IQ
    • Hearing problems
    • Learning issues
    • Behavioral issues
    • Slowed growth
    • Hyperactivity

Adults can experience cardiovascular issues, reproductive issues, decreased kidney function, high blood pressure, and hypertension caused by lead poisoning. Pregnant women may experience reduced growth of the fetus or premature birth.
